“Claim It!” Differences and Similarities: Creating a Climate of Inclusion
This lesson plan explores an activity, often called a “Power Circle,” where students stand together at one end of the classroom and listen as the teacher calls out a series of statements. Students must ‘claim’ the statement if it applies to them. The class will observe similarities and differences, experience being part of a group and being an outsider, debrief, reflect, and openly discuss diversity in class.
